The Health Benefits of Almonds

The Health Benefits of Almonds

Our bodies receive proper nutrition when we consume a wide variety of food rich in nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins. Eating a well-balanced diet helps the body feel great, increases energy, improves overall health, and boosts mood. There is no specific food known to prevent or cure disease by itself, however, having a good variety of nutrients helps us achieve better health. Almonds are a good example of a nutritionally dense food that can be mixed into our diets. Almonds have been shown to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, become a key source of fiber and provide important nutrients.

High blood pressure is one of the leading factors of heart disease and it is also one of the most manageable risk factors. Proper diet, exercise, and stress management can help reduce blood pressure. Almonds have nutrient properties that promote blood pressure reduction. One study showed that daily consumption of 50 grams of almonds over the span of four weeks lowered the subject's systolic blood pressure by ~ 10 mmHg. Almonds are also known to improve cholesterol levels. One study found that consuming 20% of an individual’s daily calorie intake from almonds showed a significant reduction in LDL-C by roughly 12 mg/dL. Many nuts, including almonds, also reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

Almonds are packed with vitamin E and magnesium. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant for the body. A single serving of almonds contains ~50% of the daily requirement for vitamin E. Magnesium helps reduce insulin resistance. Around one ounce of almonds, a single serving contains ~25% of the daily requirement for magnesium.

Fiber is an essential nutrient for feeling full, gut health, and overall well-beingAlmonds have a decent amount of fiber around 12-15% of their total weight. It is important to remember that getting fiber from multiple sources is necessary for a proper diet. Consuming almonds in moderation is important because they are a calorie-dense food.

The only ingredient in Fueled by AF’s Almond Butter is roasted blanched almonds. We believe all-natural products are the best products for overall health.
