The Real Reason Our Products are Dairy and Gluten-Free
Approximately 6.5 million people have an intellectual disability in the United States. Many of these intellectual disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, have poor bowel habits, difficulty with communication and responsiveness, and poor sleeping patterns.
Studies have shown that gluten-free and dairy-free diets have significantly improved many symptoms individuals with intellectual disabilities experience including gastrointestinal issues, behavioral problems, poor sleeping patterns, and difficulty with communication and responsiveness.
Folate is critical for brain development in childhood. Most autistic children have a significantly low amount of receptors for folate which can cause a decrease in brain production and development. In several studies completed across the world, the protein in dairy has been found to make the problem worse. It has been shown that a dairy-free and gluten-free diet significantly reduces gastrointestinal symptoms and behavioral disorders.
In a 12-month trial of gluten and dairy-free diets with individuals with autism, nonverbal IQ increased significantly. There were also significant increases in communication, coping skills, and interpersonal skills. The treatment group gained 18 months of development versus 4 months in the non-treatment group.
Overall, individuals with intellectual disabilities saw improvements in bowel habits, general health, sleeping patterns, concentration, and social communication when participating in a gluten-free and dairy-free diet.
